Donate now to save Royal Park and stop the East West Link

The Royal Park Protection Group Inc. (RPPG) and Protectors of Public Lands Victoria Inc (PPL VIC) have engaged a legal team who made a submission and who will represent us at the hearing of the Comprehensive Impact Statement on the East West Link at the Assessment Planning Panel in March 2014.
This is the only legal team supporting community groups so far with legal backup – this action will however benefit all the groups. A donation towards the costs would be appreciated.
“Our barrister attends the hearing all day, every day and has been for 2 weeks representing all our interests. Not only is he Counsel for PPL VIC and RPPG and is defending Royal Park but was named by the Chair as “Coordinating Counsel for all Community Groups” and presented the opening address to this huge forum. Plus he will be expected to make the closing submission for the community. He cross questions expert witnesses and is working with the local Council’s legal representatives at the hearing (Yarra, Melbourne, Moonee Valley and Moreland) . ” – Julianne Bell

The Assessment Committee
This is the only opportunity that the community has to provide direct input to the proposal. The terms of reference have been constrained by the Minister for Planning, and the Linking Melbourne Authority are using every legal intimidation to prevent the panel listening to alternative views, and the independent experts paid by the proponent are not going to give away anything that might assist the panel.

Royal Park: The Last Summer

Royal Park – The Last Summer. Photographs by David Tatnall.
Royal Park is the only bushland park in the City of Melbourne – 170 hectares in size, just three kilometres from the GPO. Royal Park is public land and belongs to all Victorians.
The Last Summer Project is a series of large format photographs made of Royal Park, in the summer of 2013 – 2014. Threatened by the massive East – West road project – this could be the last summer for Royal Park. New photographs will be added to this website regularly during 2014. An exhibition of the photographs will be shown at fortyfivedownstairs gallery in Melbourne from 11 – 22 March 2014.
The Last Summer Project is auspiced by The Protectors of Public Lands Victoria Inc. We acknowledge the Wurundjeri People as the traditional owners of this land.

The Guardian: David Tatnall captures the spirit of Melbourne’s Royal Park (11 March 2014)
This collection of works – The Last Summer – were taken in Royal Park during Melbourne’s hot and dry summer of 2013-14 with the hope of conveying the spirit and tranquillity of Royal Park. Royal Park – The Last Summer is showing at the fortyfive downstairs gallery until 22 March.
Do these forecasts make any sense?
These are the traffic forecasts from the Linking Melbourne Authority’s Impact Statement on the East West Link.
Given they are a public “Authority”, not just a promoter of a highly dodgy scheme, you would expect these to be dispassionate objective analysis.
But wait, under the Major Transport Facilitation Act they have also been appointed as the “Project proponent” so the lines are a little blurred.
Leaving aside questions of objectivity, what are they claiming for traffic reductions from the East West Link? In a nut shell:
Even if the East West link is built, there will be more traffic on Alexandra Parade in 2031 than today.
Exhibit A: Change in Traffic in 2031 if no tunnel is built.
