Subject: “Better Public Transport - No Road Tunnels.” In addition to opposing Sir Rod Eddington’s mega road tunnels, we are campaigning to “Bring Back The Connies” (Tram Conductors) and so improve public transport. We are showing short films from two up-and-coming Film Directors. Lester Francois’ documentary “Tram State” follows four ticket inspectors as they patrol the public transport system. Phillip Donnellon gives us the recent troubled history of tram conductors and insights into their campaigns. Come and meet a real live tram conductor and be entertained so you can forget for a short time that our town is shortly to be bulldozed by the State Government in its zeal to construct road tunnels, flyover intersections and giant vent stacks.
Open Mike: We want to hear from member groups the latest news of your campaigns.
All Welcome: The meeting is open to the public not just our members. We welcome everyone with a genuine interest in the subject.

Protectors of Public Lands Victoria Inc. Coordinates a Joint Rally “Sustainable Public Transport - No Road Tunnels” 10 September 2008 Parliament House

What happens after the Eddington Review “Investing in transport - East West Link Needs Assessment”? Many groups and individuals put in submissions to the Review by 15 July 2008 - 1,200 were recorded by the Department of Transport (formerly DOI - Department of Infrastructure). Over June and July we had rallies outside Council offices. Our people power made sure that the Cities of Brimbank; Melbourne; Moonee Valley; and Yarra voted “No Road Tunnels.” The State Government will report in November so what do we do until then? We plan to have a joint rally - possibly the first of many. We will keep you posted on other events. Here is the advance notice as follows:

Time: 12:45 pm for 1 pm start to approximately 2 pm
    Date: Wednesday 10 September 2008
Venue: Steps of Parliament Spring Street (We are only allowed on the lowest six steps of Parliament.)
Major Theme: “Sustainable Public Transport - No Road Tunnels” We are inviting speakers on this subject and hope to make a deputation to the Premier.
Contact: Julianne Bell jbell5@bigpond.com Phone: 98184114. Further reminders of this rally will be circulated
