The Abbott & Baird Show: BYO shovels + political career

The schadenfreude is seriously flowing today with Anthony Albanese calling for the Coalition’s entire megaproject program to be independently investigated in the wake of East West Link reports from the Victorian Auditor General and Australian National Audit Office, and last months WA Supreme Court ruling into Roe 8.

Guardian Australia: Labor asks for audit of all infrastructure spending after East West Link findings (6 January 2016)

Coalition’s entire program could face independent investigation following request for audit taking in Sydney’s Westconnex and the Perth Freight Link

The Coalition’s entire infrastructure program could be subject to an independent investigation after the Labor party requested an audit into claims that the handling of Melbourne’s East West Link project reflected “systematic failures”.

Labor’s call follows a scathing report by the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO), which found the Abbott government had inflated the deficit during its first year in power by transferring $1.5bn to Victoria for the now-scrapped tollway project despite “clear advice” that the payments were premature. Liberals finally work out what we knew over a year ago

Slow learners?

The Age: State Liberal campaign review: Too much East West, not enough narrative

Too much focus on the East West Link project and Ted Baillieu’s slow start to government doomed the Victorian Liberal party to election defeat last year, according to a scathing in-house analysis.  And the final report by former Liberal state party president David Kemp recommends the party set up a Community Campaign Network to better recruit volunteers and spread the party message in key seats.

Everybody knows that the only surefire way to kill a zombie is to destroy the brain.

No, you’re not seeing things, there’s actually a “East West Link – Just Build it” Rally – in support of the zombie East West Link being organised for this Saturday 8th August 2015 at 10am.

We know, you asking yourself, didn’t Victorians vote on this contentious issue waaay back on 29 November 2014?

Obviously there’s no stopping some peoples requirement for magical thinking to make their lives bearable. In more positive news, Public Transport Not Traffic have called for a pro-public transport rally on the day.

Thanks to Samantha Dunn for the Just Get Over It image 🙂

Just when you thought it was safe to stop thinking about the East West link nightmare the Liberals have called an “East West Link – Just Build it” rally this Saturday (8th August ) at 10am on the Steps of Parliament.

This time they are trying to resurrect it for the Federal Election campaign, even after the people of Victoria rejected it and threw the Liberals out with it.

So lets meet them there and use it as a chance to talk about our positive agenda for getting Melbourne moving that focuses on pro public transport solutions. If you still have any campaign banners, t-shirts, badges etc bring them with you to help make it clear we support public transport not traffic!

Join us at 9.30am Parliament Gardens on the corner of Spring and Albert st opposite the Parliament station entry. We’ll walk from there to the steps of parliament together for our very own pro public transport rally.
