City of Yarra: Find out more about the east west toll road in early June (27 May 2013)

Those opposed to the proposed east west toll road have an opportunity to make their voice heard at a series of public information sessions in early June.

Linking Melbourne Authority, the body responsible for planning for the multi-billion road project, will hold the meetings to give people a chance talk with the toll road’s project team, view maps and provide feedback on the plans before the State Government finalises a more detailed design for release over the coming months.

Council is urging people with an interest in the proposal to attend the meetings to find out more about the project.

The Linking Melbourne Authority sessions will be held on the following dates and locations:

  • Saturday 1 June, 11.00am to 3.00pm at St Brendan’s Hall, Corner of Church and High Streets, Flemington
  • Sunday 2 June, 11.00am to 3.00pm at Collingwood Masonic Hall, 141 Gipps Street, Collingwood
  • Monday 3 June, 5.00pm to 8.00pm at St Michael’s Parish Hall, 14 McIlwraith Street, North Carlton
  • Thursday 6 June, 5.00pm to 8.00pm at the State Netball and Hockey Centre, Brens Drive, Parkville.

Council has organised a public rally on Thursday 13 June at Fitzroy Town Hall to officially public launch of the “Trains not Tollroads” campaign opposing the State Government spending $8 to $15 billion on an east west road link, effectively depriving all Victorians of vital funds for public transport improvements.

Meanwhile, Council wrote to the Linking Melbourne Authority on 22 May to advise that it does not support further drilling tests on Yarra land or residential streets due to its long standing opposition to the project.

More information about the project can be found on Linking Melbourne Authority’s website here.
