Opponents of the East West Link have put the final touches to an 80-metre-long mural on the back fences of Collingwood houses earmarked for demolition. The fences face Hoddle Street, and North Fitzroy artist Cathy Drummond, who helped design the mural, said it also would be seen by motorists on the Eastern Freeway. “It’s a poignant spot because these houses won’t be here [when the tunnel is built],” she said. Among those whose homes will be demolished is Keith Fitzgerald, 72, who has lived in Bendigo Street for 70 years. He has been advised that the compulsory acquisition of his house will be gazetted on Thursday. “Once it is gazetted, it won’t belong to me any more,” he said.
