In the absence of proper planning and construction controls, crowded cities become unworkable and unliveable. Tall buildings might provide much-needed accommodation in central areas, but poorly designed skyscrapers diminish the quality of life for tenants, ruin streetscapes and create oppressive, wind-blown canyons.
