From City of Yarra: Council begins three day appearance at East West Link hearings. 24 March 2014
Council has begun its three day appearance at hearings into the proposed East West Link.
Council’s legal representatives will use the appearance before the the Victorian Planning Panel hearings to challenge the lack of evidence supporting the State Government’s claims of the East West Link’s benefits.
Speaking for Council in an opening address to the committee earlier this month, Adrian Finanzio SC and Rupert Watters of Counsel, instructed by Harwood Andrews, raised strong concerns with the absence of evidence within the Comprehensive Impact Statements (CIS) particularly in relation to traffic, urban design and heritage.
Council put to the committee that the project’s alleged benefits were not documented in the CIS and that no evidence substantiating the supposed benefits had been provided despite repeated requests to the State Government to release it..
A summary of the main points made by Council in its submission will be posted to Council’s website on Thursday 28 March.
The committee will make recommendations to the Minister for Planning whether or not to grant any applicable approvals required for the project, and if so, to recommend appropriate conditions for approvals.
Please note, the Victorian Planning Panel hearings are open to the public.
If you are interested in attending, you can go to the Mercure Melbourne Treasury Gardens Hotel, 13 Spring Street, Melbourne.
