East West Kill Fee “Unconscionable”

Victorian Greens: East West Kill Fee “Unconscionable”. Wednesday, Sep 24th, 2014

Victorian Greens leader Greg Barber says the next parliament should legislate to scrap the East West toll road if the Coalition insert an unconscionable ‘kill fee’ into construction contracts.

“This is nothing but an act of spite from a government that is flailing and knows it has lost the public’s support on transport policy,” Greg Barber said.

This is an unconscionable term to appear in a contract. Nobody gets paid $500 million for doing nothing, or for some potential, possible future gain, that is itself dependent on a government licence.

“The construction consortium is on notice: the Greens will not support a government that wants to proceed with the East West toll road.

“Labor should make an unequivocal statement of their position now, to protect the public’s interest later,” Mr Barber said.
