3AW: ‘East West Link a bad idea’ 9 September, 2014
One of Melbourne’s CityLink founders believes the state government should prioritise public transport over the construction of the East West Link.
Speaking with Tom Elliott, CityLink engineer Alan Hale said the planned road project is a “bad idea now, because it’s not a priority”.
“Money should be spent on public transport,” he said.
“The Western Ring Road … is not completed and it should be, the connection should be made to the Eastern Freeway.”
According to Mr Hale, the construction of a road between the city’s east and west will not improve traffic flow.
“It’s a huge amount of money with a lot of risk to government, and I think to the private sector, to go ahead with the East West Link,” he insisted.
