ABC: East-West Link work tipped to benefit western Victoria. 29 April 2014
Premier Denis Napthine says western Victoria will greatly benefit from the latest announcement for Melbourne’s East-West Link.
The Federal Government has doubled its commitment to the road project, with a promise to spend $1.5 billion on the second section of the development which links the Eastern Freeway to the Western Ring-Road.
Dr Napthine says the second section will take pressure off the freeways when coming into Melbourne from the state’s west.
“People coming from Warrnambool, Geelong or Ballarat are sick to death of being stuck in traffic jams waiting to get onto the West Gate Bridge, having the East-West Link stage two, or the western section, with the vital second crossing of the Maribyrnong, will give people choices and options,” he said.
“It will take traffic off the West Gate Bridge.”
