PRIME Minister Tony Abbott blasted the State Government over its failure to build the East West Link during a visit to Boronia today.
Mr Abbott and Aston Federal Liberal MP Alan Tudge toured Baxter Laboratories this morning.
Holding up a copy of the Herald Sun, with headline “$640 million for nothing” Mr Abbott said the news that the State Government would spend that much taxpayers’ money “not to build a road” and destroy jobs, was catastrophic for the future of Melbourne and Victoria.
“My pledge to the people of Melbourne and Victoria is that the $3 billion that the Commonwealth has pledged to the East West Link will remain in a locked box for the first Victorian Government who is prepared to build this absolutely necessary piece of infrastructure,” Mr Abbott said.
Mr Tudge said East West Link would be an essential road for businesses in his electorate.
