Community members in the City of Yarra are mourning the loss of one of its most passionate public transport advocates Freda St. John Watkin, who passed away on May 9.
The secretary and public face of Yarra Campaign for Action on Transport was known by the community for her tireless work campaigning against the East West Link.
Ms Watkin also worked as an installation artist, using a range of mediums including photography, digital imaging, painting and printmaking.
City of Yarra mayor Jackie Fristacky said Ms Watkin was “a beautiful person who gave her heart and soul to the community”.
“She was actively involved in campaigns over many years to protect Yarra from the destruction of the East West Link project and to raise the profile of major public transport projects such as the long awaited Doncaster Rail,” she said.
Ms Watkin was aged 66.
