1. Herald Sun: Former planning adviser hits out at Napthine Government over East West Link and long-term strategy

A former key planning adviser to the Napthine Government has made an extraordinary attack on the East West Link project and the long-term strategy for Melbourne’s development.

Professor Roz Hansen, who chaired the government’s Metropolitan Planning Strategy Ministerial Advisory Committee, last night told a city council meeting the planned road tunnel was a shortsighted and politically expedient option to solve the city’s transport woes.

“This inner-urban freeway project will undermine, erode and destroy part of our Royal Park, being a special place of state and metropolitan significance as well as a signature feature of Melbourne’ renowned network of large parks and gardens,” she said. Continue Reading…

Stop the Tunnel – Snap protest at Parliament House – 12 December

Join Our Snap Protest on EW Link at Parliament 12 noon 12 December 2013

Thursday 12 December is the last day of the Parliamentary term for 2013. Protectors of Public Lands Victoria Inc. (PPL VIC), supported by the Yarra Campaign for Action on Transport (YCAT), has decided to call a snap protest on the East West Link Toll Road.

PPL VIC points out that extraordinary numbers of community groups plus Melbourne Councils particularly Yarra, Moonee Valley and Moreland have been engaged in campaigns (protests, pickets, demonstrations and forums/information sessions) opposing the East West Link and promoting public transport. Given the target is the State Government it seems fitting that community groups have some kind of finale for the year.

This is why a snap protest has been called for 12 noon on Thursday 12 December 2013 (the 12 th hour of the 12 th day of the 12 th month) on the steps of Parliament. Continue Reading…
