Friday Snap Silent Protest: Destruction of Aboriginal Corroboree Ground on the Grassland Hill Top in Royal Park by East West Link

The PPL VIC, in association with Ycat and resident, community and transport action groups, is holding a silent protest at the drill site on the grassland hill top in Royal Park to the north of the Royal Children’s Hospital.  We have just learnt that test drilling for the East West Link has  commenced in the historic Aboriginal corroboree sacred site in Royal Park.

Details:

When: Meet 12 noon – Friday 16 November

Where: Corner of Bayles and Gatehouse Streets in Parkville

Melways: Map Page 43 3F

Plan: We will then walk up the path in Royal Park to the hilltop to the drill site.

Parking: Gatehouse Street, Bayles St or nearby streets.

Tram up Royal Parade get off at Gatehouse Street and walk down Gatehouse Street.

Tram along Flemington Road Get off and walk up Gatehouse Street.

Organised by: Protectors of Public Lands Victoria Inc and the Royal Park Protection Group Inc.

BYO: Banner and Placards as appropriate

Note: 25 groups recently joined the campaign at the rally run by YCAT (Yarra Campaign for Action on Transport) and supported by Yarra Council on 22 September 2012.

Notes: We asked the Linking Melbourne Authority NOT to drill in the grasslands until they had presented their “Business Case” for the EW Link to the Government in February next and not until a final decision was made by the Government as to the route of the EW Link.  They agreed initially but have now changed their minds.

Please attend – this may be one of the last snap protests we will be able to hold.

 cheers, freda (ycat)
