Nominations sought for Public Transport Advisory Campaign Steering Committee, City of Yarra

Yarra City Council has established a funded ($100.000) Public Transport Campaign to advocate for improved public transport across Melbourne, the Doncaster Rail and No East West Tunnel and Toll Road. Ycat is represented on the Public Transport Advisory Campaign Steering Committee, as are the PTUA, Bicycle Victoria and Victoria Walks.

However, there are a number of community positions that are equally important.

Ycat encourages Ycat members and interested individuals to nominate for a position on the Public Transport Advisory Campaign Steering Committee. These positions are currently being advertised in local papers and the following text is from Yarra City Council’s advertisement.

Yarra City Council is inviting members of the community to nominate for its Public Transport Advisory Campaign Steering Committee.   The committee will provide advice on Council’s Public Transport Advocacy Campaign, which will call on the State Government to provide better public transport. The campaign will focus specifically on supporting a rail line to Doncaster and opposing the proposed east-west road tunnel.

Ten positions are available on the steering committee, which will also include three Yarra councilors and members of the Public Transport Users Association, Bicycle Network Victoria, Victoria Walks and the Yarra Campaign for Action on Transport.

Nominees must have transport or campaign experience. To nominate, fill in the online form at www.yarracity.vic.gov.au/Parking-roads-and-transport/Sustainable-transport/public-transport-advocacy-campaign/

Further information about the committee and its Terms of Reference can also be viewed at that webpage. Nominations can also be made to Melanie Carter, Executive Assistant – City Development, on 9205 5301 or at Melanie.Carter@yarracity.vic.gov.au
