A French engineering company that has built road tunnels under a river in China is among more than 80 firms in Melbourne for a government briefing on the East West Link.

Mr O’Brien said that the market was interested and that construction would start on time.  “Five of the world’s largest construction companies have expressed an interest in delivering this project, including some of the leading tunnel constructors from around the world,” he said…

Fourteen international contractors will take part, including French construction giant Bouygues, which has built two 9km tunnels with three road lanes and a rail line under the Yangtze Delta in China. Also in attendance will be the Spanish construction and engineering giant Cintra/Ferrovial, which is currently building part of Europe’s biggest civil engineering project – the $24 billion Crossrail project across London.
