The Victorian Government is proposing to build a tunnel to link the Eastern Freeway to CityLink and the western suburbs.
This will turn North Fitzroy into a construction site in the short term, and long term will mean a tunnel entrance, exhaust stacks, ramps and the widening of freeways and side streets.
The tunnel will be used to move freight from ports to the eastern suburbs and will not help passenger transport. Cars exiting the tunnel will try to get to the CBD via the already crowded Hoddle St, Smith St, Brunswick St, Nicholson St and Lygon St, adding to congestion problems!
The project will cost $10,000,000,000 which instead could be put toward public transport improvements to help Melbourne’s growing population get around the city – and help to fight climate change.
STOP THE TUNNEL – DEMAND GREAT PUBLIC TRANSPORT
